Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the surge in Diwali sales reflects how the GST Bachat Utsav has boosted consumer demand, manufacturing, and employment nationwide. He added that the initiative has now evolved into what he called a ‘Rozgar Utsav’.
Addressing the ‘Rozgar Mela’ through video conferencing, PM Modi said this festive period has brought not only celebration but also new beginnings for thousands of young people securing government positions.
“Amidst the festive celebrations, receiving appointment letters for permanent jobs adds a double dose of joy — both the cheer of the festival and the success of employment,” the Prime Minister noted.
According to the Prime Minister, more than 51,000 candidates received their appointment letters on Friday, marking a double celebration of Diwali and employment.
“These appointments are not merely government jobs, but opportunities to actively contribute to nation-building,” he said, adding that national progress depends on youth participation and achievement.
The Prime Minister extended congratulations to the new recruits and their families, urging them to embrace their roles with a spirit of public service guided by the principle of ‘Nagarik Devo Bhava’, the citizen is divine.
He said Rozgar Melas have become a strong platform for turning the aspirations of young people into reality, noting that over 11 lakh appointment letters have already been distributed through these programmes.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, which targets employment for 3.5 crore young Indians across different sectors.
Speaking about related initiatives, PM Modi asserted, “Initiatives like the Skill India Mission and the National Career Service are connecting youth with training and employment opportunities, with information on more than 7 crore vacancies already shared through these platforms.”
Highlighting the effects of GST reforms, PM Modi said that reduced tax rates have encouraged spending, improved production, and created new job prospects.
“When everyday goods become cheaper, demand rises; increased demand accelerates production; and higher output leads to new jobs. The ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ is, thus, transforming into an Employment Festival,” he said.
