Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat visited Phalodi in Jodhpur district on Friday after chairing a high-level emergency preparedness meeting with district officials.
The visit aimed to assess disaster preparedness and ensure strong vigilance across the border region.
During the meeting held at the Jodhpur Collectorate auditorium, Shekhawat stated that while India’s armed forces are unmatched in capability and the borders are fully secured, it remains crucial for civilians and the administration to exercise extra caution.
The Union Minister took to X and wrote, “Went from Jodhpur to Phalodi and took a report from the district administration officials on the vigilance and security arrangements. It is important that no panic of any kind spreads and mutual coordination is maintained among the citizens. The district and police administration will have to take care of this.”
The local MLA of Phalodi, Pabbaram Bishnoi, was also present at the meeting.
Shekhawat instructed officials to ensure rapid, systematic, and well-coordinated responses in case of any disaster.
He particularly emphasised the need to decentralise emergency services like fire brigades and ambulances.
Ambulance deployment in all critical zones should be mandatory, he said.
Sub-divisional officers were also directed to act as nodal points for medical service oversight and conduct surprise inspections.
He further ordered that all hospitals must maintain adequate beds, medical staff, and blood units, and that critical healthcare operations should not be interrupted even during blackouts.
Community health centres should be fully functional round the clock with constant monitoring.
To prepare for emergencies, schools and safe public buildings are to be designated as shelter homes.
Ensuring the quick evacuation of residents to secure locations was marked as the highest priority.
Shekhawat also strictly instructed that no official or employee should leave their assigned headquarters.
Highlighting the importance of information control, Shekhawat warned against sharing military movements or activities on social media.
“In the digital age, misinformation spreads fast. Citizens must act responsibly and share only verified information,” he cautioned, urging everyone to play their part as responsible citizens during sensitive times.
District Collector HL Atal briefed the minister on the preparedness measures already in place.
The meeting was also attended by SP Pooja Awana, Additional Collector Ajay, SDM Sunil Panwar, and officials from all major departments.
