Gajendra Singh Shekhawat: North, South Block To Become India’s Largest Museums

At the Bharat Express Mega Conclave in New Delhi, CMD Upendrra Rai asked Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat about the future of the historic North and South Blocks and the Prime Minister’s Office, now vacated under the Central Vista redevelopment.

Shekhawat explained that the government will convert these buildings into India’s largest and most majestic museums, celebrating the nation’s cultural and historical legacy.

“These iconic structures will now serve as cultural centres, allowing citizens and visitors to experience our heritage firsthand,” he said.

He added that the entire Central Vista Project moves forward under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance.

The design and architecture aim not just for functionality but to reflect India’s knowledge traditions and historical achievements.

“The plan ensures public access so every Indian can connect with their roots and appreciate the nation’s journey,” Shekhawat stated.

He concluded that India’s development combines new construction with preserving and repurposing heritage structures, merging modernity with cultural continuity.

The transformed North and South Block will serve as a cultural hub and museum complex, providing future generations and global tourists with a comprehensive understanding of Indian civilisation.

Shekhawat highlighted that ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ envisions heritage conservation alongside modern infrastructure.

The revamped museums will further serve as major tourist and educational centres, showcasing India’s governance, culture, and history.

This initiative blends India’s past and future, making Central Vista a landmark in heritage and urban planning.

The government aims to ensure these iconic buildings inspire citizens and visitors, reflecting PM Modi’s vision of a developed, culturally enriched India.
