Patna witnesses another political storm as the Bharatiya Janata Party accuses Rashtriya Janata Dal workers of chanting derogatory slogans about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother during a rally led by Tejashwi Yadav.
The RJD rejects the charge, calling it a doctored-video ploy ahead of the Assembly polls.
On Saturday, the Bihar BJP posts a video on X showing Tejashwi Yadav addressing a crowd from an RJD stage. A background voice appears to hurl abuses at the Prime Minister and his late mother.
The state unit claims Yadav facilitates such language and asserts Bihar’s women will respond to the insults at the ballot box.
The RJD denies the authenticity of the footage, alleging that the BJP is attempting to tarnish its image ahead of the elections.
Congress leaders, including MP Imran Masood, counter that the BJP should first act against the individual responsible rather than deflect blame.
Masood calls the situation evidence of ‘weak governance’ and questions why agencies such as the NIA have not taken swift action.
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Surendra Rajput accuses the BJP of seeking votes in the name of the Prime Minister’s late mother while failing to lodge prompt FIRs against actual offenders.
He recalls previous incidents when BJP supporters allegedly used offensive language against Bihar’s women during protests.
Purnea MP Pappu Yadav condemns any abuse directed at mothers, saying such behaviour erodes social values. He demands that those identified in the viral videos be expelled from their parties and prosecuted, noting that derogatory remarks, whether about caste or family, damage public life and culture.
The row follows earlier uproar over similar comments made during the ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga.
Prime Minister Modi has already stated that while he may forgive personal insults, Bihar and India “never tolerate an insult to a mother.”
