Former supreme court Judge’s unconventional ‘Astralaya’ theory shakes internet amid India’s Cricket loss to Australia

Following India’s loss in the Cricket World Cup final against Australia, experts have diligently analyzed factors such as India’s batting performance and fielding errors that contributed to the unbeaten Rohit Sharma-led side’s downturn. However, former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju has taken an unconventional stance, claiming Australia’s victory is rooted in ancient history.

Justice Katju asserted that Australia served as the armory of the Pandavas during ancient times, referred to as ‘Astralaya,’ where their mystical weapons or ‘Astras’ were stored. Despite lacking evidence or context for this peculiar theory, Justice Katju’s post gained viral attention, leaving the internet bewildered.

Users responded with a mix of amusement and sarcasm, with one thanking him for his humor and another humorously attributing the creation of countries to individuals, taking a jab at Katju’s unconventional explanation.

Known for his outspoken views, Justice Katju, a former chairman of the Press Council of India, started his law practice in the Allahabad High Court and held various high-ranking positions in the judiciary until his retirement from the Supreme Court in September 2011.

India’s recent defeat to Australia marks the second loss in a final within five months, following the World Test Championship decider in June. Despite successes in the one-day World Cup in 1983 and 2011, India faced setbacks at the semi-final stage in 2015 and 2019. The cricketing community remains focused on conventional analyses, notwithstanding Justice Katju’s unorthodox interpretation gaining attention.
