First “anti-ship missile” developed in India is tested by the Indian Navy | Watch

Tuesday marked the successful completion of India’s second trial of its in-house navy anti-ship missile, which was first tested in May of last year. The Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) worked together to conduct the test.

“#Indian Navy, in collaboration with @DRDO_India, completed successful guided flight trials of the first naval anti-ship missile designed and manufactured domestically, the Seaking 42B helicopter, on November 21, 23. An important step toward becoming self-sufficient in specialized missile technology, including seeker and guidance technology, the navy posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The missile fire from the Sea King 42B helicopter was shown in the video that the Indian Navy posted on X.

The Indian Navy’s Seaking helicopter carried out the first test firing of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile Short Range (NASM-SR) in May 2022 at the Chandipur integrated test range (ITR) off the coast of Odisha.

The missile combines a number of cutting-edge technology, including an in-house helicopter launcher and an innovative navigation and integrated avionics guidance system. Furthermore, the Indian Navy declared in October that it was getting ready for the first-ever trial of a brand-new Long Range Anti-Ship Missile—developed by DRDO—that would have a 500 km range, exceeding the range of the BrahMos missile.

The Indo-Russian cruise missile BrahMos has an enhanced range of 350 to 400 km, having previously had a 290 km range.

The Indian Navy successfully fired an MRSAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) from INS Visakhapatnam in March of this year, demonstrating its capability to intercept “Anti Ship Missiles.” The Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) worked together to develop the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile, which was produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
