Finance Minister Announces Changes In GST Rates; Twitter Floods With Reactions

The Finance Minister of India – Nirmala Sitharaman announced the changes that the centre government has decided to make in the GST rates. This was done in the 50th meeting of the GST Council. There are a lot of changes that has been suggested by the finance department. Surprisingly, the most pressing concern for the public, out of all the amendments is of online gaming. The finance minister made it public that the taxes on online games will be 28 percent.  Reactions on the same have come up from one of the most prominent personalities of India.

Ashneer Grover, the founder of PhonePe who got fame from his brutal comments on the show ‘Shark Tank’ reacted to this change. He used Twitter to express himself, his tweet said, “RIP – Real money gaming industry in India. If the govt is thinking people will put in ₹100 to play on ₹72 pot entry (28% Gross GST); and if they win ₹54 (after platform fees)- they will pay 30% TDS on that – for which they will get free swimming pool in their living room come the first monsoon – not happening !…”

He is not the only celeb to react on the matter, former Indian Cricketer – Virender Sehwag also took it to Twitter and said, “All fantasy companies having 11 in their name should now become xxx 8.593 + gst”

Followed by the announcement, the Internet saw video of youth angry over the decision. They are expressing their fury in the most disastrous manner

Also, it is raining memes on the matter from various prominent Twitter handles.

BJP leader cuts through all

However, there are many great things about the announcements made by the Finance Ministry. This was also highlighted by prominent faces of the nation. BJP leader – Kishore Upadhyay Tweeted, “People clamouring against the 28% GST hike on online gaming, but these people are not thanking @nsitharamanji, for reducing GST on four items…”

This is a very promising change that will definitely be easy on middle-class households and be appreciated by them.
