Russia Says Putin’s Visit To China Is ‘On The Agenda’

The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin would be visiting China, noting that it was an opportune time to strengthen the two nations’ existing strong ties.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, said that the date of Putin’s travel will be disclosed after it was finalized.

“The time has come to sustain high dynamics in the development of bilateral Russian-Chinese relations… The precise dates will be decided upon, and you will be notified. The dialogue continues on multiple levels”, he remarked.

Russia has increased its economic, trade, political, and military connections with China following its decision to send tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine, which caused relations with the West to reach post-Cold War lows.

Just weeks before Russia launches what it terms a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping committed to a ‘no limits’ partnership.

In March of this year, Xi paid a visit to Moscow and signed a number of economic and other deals with his dear friend Putin.

China, a key consumer of Russian oil and gas, published a document asking for de-escalation and an eventual truce in Ukraine, but Kyiv and its Western allies rejected the plan, claiming that it would cement Russian territorial gains.

According to Peskov, the two presidents will discuss bilateral trade and economic cooperation as well as global issues during Putin’s scheduled trip to Beijing.

“Based on the similarity of Moscow and Beijing’s visions of the essence of international relations…we have very, very good prospects for further discussions and, most importantly, constructive interaction”, Peskov stated.
