Father’s Eyewitness Account Fuels SIT Probe In Noida Techie Death Case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday launched a full-scale probe into the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who died after his car plunged into a water-filled ditch in Noida’s Sector-150.

The Uttar Pradesh government constituted the SIT on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directions after allegations of grave negligence surfaced.

The government has ordered the SIT to submit its findings within five days. Acting swiftly, the Chief Minister removed Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M from office and terminated a junior engineer’s services.

Police also arrested a builder-cum-developer for criminal negligence. Knowledge Park police made the arrest while tracking the accused named in the FIR.

The SIT reached the Noida Authority office at around 12.15 PM and conducted a nearly three-hour review meeting.

ADG Meerut Zone Bhanu Bhaskar chaired the session. Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh, District Magistrate Medha Roopam, and Noida Authority Additional CEO Krishna Karunesh appeared before the team.

Officials from several departments remained on standby with records and files.

Investigators also recorded the statement of the victim’s father, Rajkumar Mehta. He told the SIT that he saw his son trapped inside the sinking car.

He alleged that nearly 80 people were present at the spot, but no one stepped in to rescue Yuvraj.

Officials described his account as critical to reconstructing the incident. Police later escorted him home for security.

After the meeting, the SIT inspected the accident site in Sector-150. Officials examined the road curve, the exact point where the car fell, and the lack of barricades or warning signs.

The team collected details about the adjoining road network, the plot, and the developer responsible for the site.

ADG Bhanu Bhaskar said the investigation would proceed in three stages. He confirmed that the team completed the office review and site inspection on Tuesday.

Investigators will now record statements of all direct and indirect witnesses.

The SIT is scrutinising the roles of civic bodies and the police. Officials warned that strict action will follow if lapses emerge.

Sources said officers from the police, fire services, and district administration will soon face questioning.

Noida MP Mahesh Sharma said he spoke to the Chief Minister and assured the family of support.

He said the government’s actions reflect seriousness and added that compensation will be discussed soon.
