Former principal of R G Kar Medical College & Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, returned to the CBI office in Salt Lake on Saturday for further questioning related to the rape and murder of a junior doctor.
CBI questioned Ghosh for several hours until late Friday night and asked him to return the next morning.
Dr. Ghosh arrived at the CBI office around 4 PM on Friday and underwent extended interrogation. The CBI allowed Ghosh to leave after midnight and asked him to return on Saturday morning.
Notably, Ghosh exited the building through a rear exit, avoiding the press.
Sources reveal that the victim’s family had informed CBI officials about the undue pressure and extra duties the junior doctor faced during odd hours.
Investigators are probing whether Dr. Ghosh was aware of these issues during his tenure as principal and whether he took any corrective actions.
On Friday, the CBI also interviewed several trainee and junior doctors who were with the victim on the night of the incident.
Investigators also questioned the head of the hospital’s chest medicine department and an assistant superintendent. The officials have recorded statements from these doctors, who dined with the victim that evening.
The CBI has summoned all 49 security personnel from the outsourced agency employed at the hospital for questioning.
So far, investigators have interrogated 13 of these security staff members.
The victim’s family has expressed doubts about the involvement of Sanjay Ray, the arrested civic volunteer, suggesting that others within the hospital might also be implicated.
They have publicly maintained that the brutality of the incident points to potential insider involvement.
