Communal Tensions Erupt In Udaipur Following School Stabbing; District Administration Takes Action

In response to escalating communal tensions in Udaipur, the district administration has announced the closure of all schools and colleges in the city on Saturday. This decision follows a violent incident at a government school where a class 10 student stabbed a minor boy, sparking widespread unrest.

To manage the situation, District Magistrate Arvind Poswal has imposed Section 144, banning large gatherings, and issued prohibitory orders to maintain public order. Additionally, internet services across the city will suspend for 24 hours starting from 10 p.m. on Friday, affecting the areas of Bedla, Badgaon, Balicha, Debari, Eklingpura, Kanpur, Dhikali, and Bhuwana. However, lease line services will remain operational during this period, with the potential for an extension of the outage if necessary.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham has assured that the injured student is receiving medical treatment under the supervision of senior doctors. “Our priority is to ensure the child’s safety. The Chief Minister is closely monitoring the situation, and we are in constant contact with the district administration. The government will take strict action against those responsible. We urge everyone to maintain peace,” Bedham said.

About The Communal Tension

The violence erupted after a confrontation between two students at the government school. The injure student further identified as Devraj, was rushed to the hospital where he is currently being treated. The accused student, who fled the scene, has since been detained, and an investigation is underway, according to District Collector Poswal.

In response to the attack, Hindu organizations called for a protest, leading shopkeepers in key areas such as Chetak Circle, Hathipol, Ashwini Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, and Ghantaghar to close their businesses. The protests turned violent, with a mob vandalizing a shopping mall, setting vehicles on fire, and engaging in stone-pelting. The police had to use lathicharge to disperse the crowd.

District Collector Poswal and Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal have visited MB Hospital to oversee the injured student’s treatment and address public concerns. Poswal has urged residents to disregard rumors and remain calm as the situation stabilizes.

However, most markets in Udaipur are close, and police forces are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents.
