Lucknow: Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, stated in a Friday issued statement that prior to the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, Excise, Income Tax, Police, Narcotics Department, and other enforcement agencies seized cash amounting to Rs 1479.20 lakh, liquor worth Rs 2242.06 lakh equivalent to 632245.35 litres, drugs valued at Rs 3527.60 lakh comprising 4499949.66 grams, precious metals weighing 39163.86 grams worth Rs 1778.18 lakh, 298 free gifts valued at Rs 1.43 lakh, and 896.21 other items worth Rs 112.34 lakh.
The election officer further mentioned that a total of Rs 9140.81 lakh worth of drugs, cash, free gifts, liquor, precious metals, and other materials have been seized thus far. On March 28, owing to the diligence of the election teams, one kilogram of drugs estimated at Rs 2 crore was intercepted and seized in the Ghazipur assembly constituency of the district.
Navdeep Rinwa highlighted the proactive measures undertaken by the election teams across districts, citing the example of Nanpara in Bahraich district, where 7.4 kg of drugs valued at Rs 74 lakh were confiscated. Additionally, cash amounting to Rs 13.54 lakh was seized in the Ghaziabad assembly constituency of Ghaziabad district. Excise, Income Tax, Police, Narcotics departments, and other enforcement agencies are vigilant against suspicious activities and taking necessary seizure actions.
