Embodiment Of Compassion And Service: PM Modi Pays Tribute To Sivakumara Swamigalu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to Sivakumara Swamigalu on the occasion of his jayanti, remembering him as a symbol of compassion, humility, and unwavering service to humanity.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister said that Swamigalu remains etched in collective memory for his lifelong dedication to uplifting others. He noted that the revered seer demonstrated that true greatness lies in serving society selflessly, leaving behind a lasting influence across education, social welfare, and spirituality.

Popularly known as ‘Nadedavaru Devaru’ (Walking God) in Karnataka, Swamigalu passed away in 2019.

Over the years, he established more than 12,000 educational institutions, ranging from primary schools to colleges offering courses in engineering, science, and the arts, under the aegis of the Siddaganga Mutt.

Born on April 1, 1907, in Veerapura near Bengaluru, he was named Shivanna and displayed an early inclination towards spirituality following personal hardships in childhood. He later pursued higher education and eventually succeeded his guru as the pontiff of Siddaganga Mutt, a position he held for nearly 76 years.

During his tenure, he founded the Sri Siddaganga Education Society, which played a vital role in providing education to thousands of students, especially from rural and underprivileged backgrounds, blending traditional learning with modern knowledge.

Swamigalu spoke Kannada, English, and Sanskrit fluently and demonstrated strong discipline and commitment to teaching.

Authorities honoured him with the Karnataka Ratna and the Padma Bhushan, recognising his immense contributions and cementing his legacy as a guiding light of service and humanity.
