Election Commission Holds Two-Day Conference To Assess Electoral Roll Readiness

On Wednesday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) opened a two-day conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.

The discussions focus on assessing readiness across the country for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar chaired the meeting, which Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi attended.

At the heart of the discussions was an assessment of the readiness of all State and Union Territory CEO offices for the vital SIR process, which plays a central role in maintaining accuracy and inclusivity in the country’s electoral rolls.

This review builds on an earlier conference held on 10 September 2025, during which all States and UTs shared detailed data concerning electors, qualifying dates, and the current status of their electoral rolls following the previous revision.

According to the Commission’s statement, “The Conference is being held as a follow-up on the SIR preparedness conference held on September 10, 2025, during which all the States/UTs gave detailed presentations on the number of Electors, qualifying date of last SIR and Electoral Roll in their respective State/UT as per the last completed SIR.”

Progress Review and Data Mapping

The Commission took stock of the developments achieved since that meeting and sought updates on the implementation of earlier directives.

A major item on the agenda was to examine progress in mapping present electors against data from the previous SIR to help identify additions, deletions, and necessary corrections.

“The Commission assessed the progress made on the directions previously issued to the CEOs to map the current electors with the electors as per the last SIR in the State/UT,” the ECI noted.

In addition, the Commission reviewed the appointment and training status of field-level officials, including District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs).

The ongoing conference seeks to harmonise procedures, bolster coordination among States, and guarantee that every eligible citizen remains duly registered before the forthcoming election cycle.
