ED Summons Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for the 7th Time in Excise Policy Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the excise policy case, marking the seventh such summons issued to him. Kejriwal has been asked to appear for questioning on February 26.

Previously, the central probe agency had issued a summons on February 14, setting the appearance date for February 19, which the Chief Minister chose to skip. This marks the sixth instance where Kejriwal has failed to appear for questioning regarding the excise policy matter.

On February 3, following Kejriwal’s absence during the agency’s fifth summons, the ED complained Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra. The complaint, invoking sections 190 and 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code, was filed due to the CM’s non-compliance with the summons issued under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and his failure to participate in the ongoing investigation.

In its submission, the ED highlighted that Kejriwal, being a prominent public figure, must adhere to the law as disregarding legal obligations could set a negative precedent for the general public. The agency also criticized his lack of cooperation during the investigation.

Responding to the ED’s court complaint, AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated, “The ED has taken legal action against the Delhi CM, who has already appeared virtually on February 17. He is scheduled to appear again on March 16. We urge the ED to exercise patience. Regardless of the outcome, we will respect the decision made in this matter.”
