EAM Jaishankar Speaks To Rubio Over Incident That Killed Indian Mariners

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said he spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday regarding an incident in the Gulf that resulted in the deaths of three Indian mariners.

In a post on X, Jaishankar stated that he used the conversation to convey India’s strong protest over the attack. He emphasised New Delhi’s concerns regarding the loss of Indian lives during the incident.

The External Affairs Minister reiterated India’s position that attacks on commercial shipping vessels cannot be justified. He stressed that the use of lethal force against civilian maritime operations raises serious concerns.

Jaishankar noted that India expects accountability and remains committed to safeguarding the interests of its citizens working in international waters.

The incident reportedly claimed the lives of three Indian mariners operating in the Gulf region. The deaths have triggered concern in India and prompted diplomatic engagement with the United States.

The government has closely monitored developments surrounding the incident and remains in contact with relevant authorities.

The issue has once again highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of commercial shipping routes and civilian seafarers.

India has consistently advocated for the protection of maritime trade and the security of international sea lanes.

Officials view the safety of Indian nationals employed in the global shipping industry as a matter of significant importance.

Jaishankar’s conversation with Rubio reflects ongoing diplomatic communication between India and the United States on matters affecting bilateral interests and regional security.

The government is expected to continue pursuing the matter through diplomatic channels while seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three Indian mariners.
