Dr. Manmohan Singh Was An Honest Leader Who Rose Above Struggles: PM Narendra Modi

PM Narendra Modi on Friday offered heartfelt tributes to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday night.

Remembering him as a distinguished economist and statesman, PM Modi highlighted Singh’s invaluable contributions to India’s development, particularly his role in shaping the nation’s economic direction in 1991.

In a video tribute, PM Modi described Dr. Manmohan Singh’s passing as a significant loss to the nation. He further emphasized that India will forever cherish his contributions to its development.

PM Modi highlighted that Dr. Singh’s life exemplified resilience, showcasing how one can rise above challenges and hardships to leave an enduring legacy that will inspire future generations.

The Prime Minister stated, “Manmohan Singh’s life was a reflection of his honesty and simplicity. He was a distinguished parliamentarian. His life will always be a lesson on how a person can attain success by rising above deprivation and struggle.”

“He will always be remembered as an honest man, a great economist and a leader who initiated a slew of reforms. As an economist, he provided a lot of services to the nation. During challenging times, he served as the RBI Governor,” he added.

PM Modi further asserted, “When he was the Finance Minister in the Cabinet of former PM Bharat Ratna late PV Narasimha Rao, he gave the country a new direction when it was reeling under an economic crisis.”

PM Modi fondly recalled meeting Dr. Manmohan Singh in Parliament for the last time and described him as a warm and respected figure admired across party lines.

“Early this year, when his Rajya Sabha tenure was ending, I had said that his integrity is an inspiration for fellow Parliamentarians. He was an endearing politician, who rose above party politics and maintained warm relations with all leaders across the country,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Modi highlighted Dr. Singh’s academic brilliance, praising his education at prestigious global institutions and his resilience in overcoming struggles while staying rooted in India’s shared heritage.

“Rising above party politics, he always kept in touch with leaders from every party and was easily available to everyone,” the PM added.
