Delhi Police Clears Up Confusion Over Security Withdrawal For Wrestlers

The Delhi Police have clarified the recent confusion over the security withdrawal for women wrestlers who accused former BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment. The Rouse Avenue Court received this clarification, which resolves the misunderstanding about the security issue.

Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava explained to the court that the removal of security was a misunderstanding that has now been addressed. This clarification comes after wrestlers claimed their security was withdrawn just one day before their testimony against Singh.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajput had previously ordered the Delhi Police to submit a detailed report by Friday on the reasons behind the security withdrawal for one female wrestler. The wrestlers alleged that the abrupt removal of their security prompted the court to issue strict instructions to ensure their protection.

In response, the Delhi Police stated that security personnel were temporarily reassigned for routine training and practice, refuting any malicious intent. Senior advocate Rebecca John, representing the wrestlers, claimed that security was withdrawn on the night of August 21. However, New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) countered this by tweeting that the security was not removed but was being transferred to Haryana Police, as many wrestlers live in Haryana.

The case against Brij Bhushan Singh involves a detailed 1,500-page charge sheet that outlines allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and stalking involving six female wrestlers. This charge sheet includes statements from at least 22 witnesses across four states, including wrestlers, a referee, a coach, and a physiotherapist, who all support the allegations.

As the legal proceedings continue, the court and police face scrutiny to ensure the safety and protection of the individuals involved.
