The Delhi High Court addressed a petition seeking the cancellation of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship. The court noted a similar petition is pending in the Allahabad High Court, which is already hearing the matter. Justice informed petitioner Subramanian Swamy that having two courts handle the same issue would not be appropriate. The Delhi High Court requested details about the ongoing case in Allahabad and scheduled the next hearing for October 9.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed the petition, claiming that Rahul Gandhi holds British citizenship and possesses a British passport. Swamy urged the Home Ministry to take action on this matter. He also asserted that Gandhi is a director of Backlops Limited, a UK-registered company, which allegedly listed his date of birth as June 19, 1970, in its annual returns for 2005 and 2006. Swamy previously accused Gandhi of having British citizenship in August 2019, but he claims the Home Ministry has yet to respond or clarify its stance. This issue has resurfaced multiple times, including an RTI request regarding Gandhi’s citizenship status.
