Delhi Government Issues Rainy Season Advisory: Preventing Water-Borne Diseases with Dos and Don’t

As the rainy season sets in, the Delhi government has issued a crucial advisory cautioning citizens about the increased risk of water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentery, and cholera. Published in leading dailies on Friday, the city health department’s advisory outlines essential dos and don’ts to safeguard public health during the monsoon season.

Water-borne diseases are primarily spread through the consumption of contaminated water, ice, or food. To combat this, the advisory emphasizes the importance of certain preventive measures. It advises people to opt for home-cooked fresh food, maintain good personal hygiene, and use oral rehydration solutions (ORS) to prevent dehydration. In case of vomiting, jaundice, or fever, seeking immediate medical attention is recommended.

To further minimize risks, the advisory specifically urges citizens to refrain from consuming roadside uncooked food, including cut fruits, which may pose health hazards. Additionally, it appeals to the public to refrain from urinating or defecating in the open to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases.

The recent flooding in certain parts of Delhi also prompted authorities to caution the public about the potential spread of water-borne and vector-borne diseases. In light of this, adhering to the advisory’s guidelines becomes even more critical to ensure the well-being of the community during the monsoon season.
