Uttar Pradesh authorities on Tuesday conducted a demolition drive at the properties of Jalaluddin, alias Chhangur Baba, in Balrampur, the alleged mastermind behind a major conversion ring in the state.
Earlier, the UP police arrested Jalaludin on accusations of operating an organised gang involved in the conversion of Hindu girls to Islam.
The demolition drive at his properties was part of an initiative to dismantle networks of individuals involved in the operations of the gang.
Calling the actions of Jalaluddin both anti-social and anti-national, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said his government would take strict and exemplary action against those involved in such activities, including seizure of properties and criminal prosecution.
“There will be no leniency. Those who conspire against the nation under the guise of religion will face the full force of the law,” CM Adityanath posted on X.
UP Minister Sanjay Nishad supported the drive, saying, “Illegal activities cannot be tolerated in a democracy. The previous governments may have protected such people, but this administration will not. I commend the government for taking bold action. Religion is a guiding force in life — not something to be exploited. People like Chhangur Baba are defaming faith, and appeasement politics must end.”
UP Cabinet Minister Anil Rajbhar claimed that over 100 crores have been found in the accounts of the accused Jalaluddin.
He further stated, ” There appears to be a network spanning 40 countries. He reportedly spent lakhs on each conversion. At least 18 individuals have been identified in this organised operation, and even the name of a former Maharashtra minister has surfaced. These people live in India, eat its food, and still conspire against it. This is a massive plot against Sanatan Dharma.”
The ring was allegedly headed by Jalaluddin and his wife, Nettu, alias Nasreen. They are accused of converting 40 girls from Hindu and other non-Muslim communities. The conversions were reportedly done through false promises and inducements.
The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) made arrests from Madhpur and Balrampur. Earlier, a court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Jalaluddin. A cash reward of ₹50,000 was also announced for his arrest.
