A Delhi court has issued a notice to the CBI and requested a response regarding the bail plea filed by the co-owners of the basement involved in the Old Rajendra Coaching Center accident. This incident resulted in the death of three students. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma described the case as unfortunate and emphasized that it is not an ordinary matter. The court has asked the CBI to provide concrete evidence concerning the accountability of the co-owners. The case will be heard again on September 11. The court also requested a response on a bail plea filed by the father of one of the deceased students.
The students who lost their lives are Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Navin Delvin. On August 23, the Rouse Avenue Court rejected the bail pleas of all four accused: Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarabjit Singh. The Delhi High Court subsequently transferred the case to the CBI for further investigation. The lower court had earlier stated that the investigation was still in its initial stages, making it premature to grant bail.
The CBI has opposed the bail pleas, arguing that the basement was constructed illegally. The defense lawyer for the co-owners contended that the deaths were due to unforeseen circumstances and not negligence. The lawyer claimed that the Municipal Corporation’s failure to perform its duties contributed to the tragedy. He argued that the basement was initially a waiting area for students, not a library. Additionally, he noted that a recent inspection by the fire department had deemed the building safe and suitable for educational purposes.
The Tis Hazari Court had previously allowed the withdrawal of the bail pleas for the four accused. Subsequently, they filed new bail applications with the Rouse Avenue Court, which had earlier denied their requests for bail.
