Delhi Airport Just 20 Minutes Away As New Ring Road Nears Completion
Union Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently made a significant announcement during his interaction with the Indian Diaspora at the 27th World Road Congress in Prague. He revealed plans for the upcoming Urban Extension Road 2, a major ring road project in Delhi, which is set to open in 2-3 months. Once completed, this road is expected to drastically reduce travel time to the airport, bringing it down from 2 hours to just 20 minutes.
This infrastructure project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the Indian capital. Minister Gadkari also shared India’s ambitious goal of becoming the world’s leading automobile manufacturing hub within the next 3 to 4 years. He highlighted the remarkable growth of the Indian automobile industry, which has expanded from ₹4.5 lakh crore to ₹12.5 lakh crore in the last nine years, providing jobs to 4.5 crore people.
Moreover, Minister Gadkari discussed the government’s strategy of transitioning away from diesel and petrol, with Nagpur serving as an example where various vehicles, including tractors, buses, and cars, are running on bio-CNG. He expressed his aspiration to eventually eliminate the use of petrol and diesel throughout India.
Nitin Gadkari’s visit to Prague is part of his official tour, which includes participation in the Ministerial session on Road Safety at the 27th World Road Congress. He was warmly welcomed in a traditional ‘Maharashtrian way’ upon his arrival at Prague airport on October 1, where he was greeted by India’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Hemant Kotalwar. This announcement and his vision for India’s transportation and infrastructure signify significant steps towards improved mobility and sustainability.
