The International Women’s Day Award winners were honored by the Delhi Commission for Women(DCW). A program in Delhi honored approximately 100 women.
Many dignitaries attended, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Swati Maliwal, and Bharat Express Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Upendra Rai. The program was unique in that many transgender women were honored at the same time. Significantly, this award is given to women who have done outstanding work with courage and bravery in various fields.
Bharat Express Chairman, MD, and Editor-in-Chief Upendra Rai was specially invited to the program. During this time, Upendra Rai shared his thoughts on women’s empowerment.
In reference to historical violence against women, he emphasized the importance of making them stronger. “Until 1970, if a woman was murdered in China, there was no provision in the law to take action against her”. Upendra Rai explained. Women were even forced to wear iron shoes so that they could walk on the shoulders of men. Upendra Rai went on to say that the effort is to make women stronger in today’s world.
Bharat Express Chairman also emphasized that there is a lot of violence against women in remote locations in addition to Delhi. Swati Maliwal and her work were also acknowledged by Mr. Rai. The Delhi Commission for Women(DCW) is performing considerably better, he claimed.
He further said, “Women who are conscious and attempting to make a difference, like Swati Maliwal, should be commended for their efforts. I sincerely congratulate Swati Maliwal and admire her selfless work. Swati Maliwal is the only president who carries out nighttime raids and unexpected checks in addition to her other duties”.
