Congress Spokesperson Rohan Gupta Resigns Due to Ongoing Humiliation From Senior Leaders

Rohan Gupta, the national spokesperson for the Congress and the previous head of social media, declared on Friday that he was resigning from all party roles due to “character assassination” and “constant humiliation” by senior leaders of the party.

Three days before his resignation Gupta had announced his withdrawal from the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency.

“I took the most difficult decision of my life of withdrawing my candidature. Now I am taking another most difficult decision of leaving the party after serving it for the last 15 years because of constant humiliation and character assassination by the leader connected with the Communication department,” Rohan Gupta said in a letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Informing of his father’s health condition, Gupta wrote, “Amidst the personal crisis, I spent last 3 days with my father while he is battling serious health conditions which has really helped me understand his perspective. He narrated the incidences of betrayal and sabotage for the last 40 years and how the leaders got away in spite of their ill-doings. The wounds of those incidences have still not healed which I could see in his tears.”

He further added, “He doesn’t want me to pay the same price as the whole family has seen the mental trauma I have gone through in last two years which was caused by the senior leader connected with Communication Department. My father could visualise the same thing happening to me which I could not. He tolerated the same and ended up spoiling his health and underwent bypass surgery which he never wanted me to.”

He said, “The person who has humiliated me for last two years, the person who has not budged from doing it in last three days, I am sure that he will not refrain from doing it in future and nobody will be able to stop him. But now I am not ready to take any more assault on my self-esteem.”

Refraining from taking any names, Gupta said his resignation is the result of an unnamed leader’s behaviour causing him “serious mental agony and stress.”

Gupta further added that, “With broken heart I have taken decision of resigning which is very difficult but necessary to protect my self respect. Now my moral doesn’t permit me to continue in the party. The same leader has damaged party also with his arrogant and rude behaviour.  Due to his extreme leftist mindset he ensured party’s silence on insult of Sanatan Dharma which hurt me personally and I was forcefully stopped from opposition insult of sanatan dharma on national TV. This has done serious damage to party image and to the morale of the party’s leaders.”

Manish Doshi, Congress Party’s Gujarat spokesperson alleged that Gupta resigned because he wanted to join the Bharatiya Janta Party for his business interests. “His resignation letter to the party is scripted,” Doshi claimed.

Doshi accused Gupta of Vandalising the party’s image, “The language you are using today shows that you want to please your new masters before entering their house,” he added.”

“More than a responsibility, Gupta has been a liability for the party, and it’s good riddance for the Congress,” the Doshi stated about Gupta’s perceived usefulness to the party.

Due to his father’s health, Gupta withdrew his bid for the Lok Sabha from the Ahmedabad East seat on March 18.
