CMD Upendrra Rai Pays Homage To Freedom Fighter Babu Genda Singh In Kushinagar

Bharat Express Chairman & Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Upendrra Rai attended a memorial ceremony in Kushinagar to pay tribute to freedom fighter and former minister Babu Genda Singh.

CMD Rai offered floral homage at Singh’s portrait before addressing the gathering. He said that Babu Genda Singh was a visionary, far ahead of his time, whose work remained exemplary for society and the nation.

While addressing the audience, CMD Rai reflected on Singh’s inspiring personality and immense contribution.

He noted that Babu Genda Singh was known as a messiah for farmers, dedicating his life to improving the lives of cultivators in Purvanchal.

Several key institutions in Sewarhi—including the Sugarcane Research Centre, Goat Farm, Silk Farm, Vegetable and Spice Farm, AP embankment and canal projects—stand as testimony to his developmental vision.

Rai highlighted that Singh fought relentlessly for the rights of sugarcane farmers and strongly believed in value-based politics.

This commitment, he said, is the reason why Singh’s life and ideals continue to remain relevant even today. “We must draw inspiration from such towering personalities,” CMD Rai remarked.

A Leader Ahead of His Time

CMD Upendrra Rai emphasised that Babu Genda Singh was thoughtful and far-sighted, with an ability to foresee future challenges and work towards their solutions.

He said, “Heroes like Babu Genda Singh sacrificed everything for our freedom. On his death anniversary, we must pledge to fulfil his dreams. Freedom does not come merely from unfurling the flag, but through self-reliance and unity.”

Recalling Singh’s commitment to the Swadeshi movement, CMD Rai further urged the youth to adopt local products and reduce dependence on foreign goods.

“Mahatma Gandhi and Babu Genda Singh showed us that the spinning wheel and khadi were symbols of self-respect. Even after 78 years of independence, we must continue our struggle for economic freedom,” he said.

Kushinagar’s Significance and Local Issues

CMD Rai’s address also shed light on the problems faced by Kushinagar, a globally recognised Buddhist pilgrimage centre. He stressed the need to improve basic facilities in the region and called for focused efforts in education, healthcare, and employment.

He reaffirmed Bharat Express’s commitment to contributing positively in these areas. CMD Rai urged people to break caste and religious barriers to build a strong nation.

CMD Rai concluded by saying, “Babu Genda Singh never discriminated; we too must follow his example.” His 20-minute address, enriched with poems and historical anecdotes, moved the audience emotionally.

The event also highlighted Babu Genda Singh’s pivotal role in the Quit India Movement and his leadership in promoting the Swadeshi spirit.

Moreover, the programme began with lamp-lighting and the national anthem, followed by a short documentary on his life.

Family members, associates, and local leaders were also present, and contributors from various fields were honoured—underscoring a collective resolve to uphold Singh’s ideals.
