Babu Genda Singh Tribute Event Held In Kushinagar; CMD Upendrra Rai Leads Ceremony

A solemn tribute event was held in Kasaya, Kushinagar, on Saturday to honour the legacy of renowned freedom fighter and former minister Babu Genda Singh.

The ceremony served as a reminder of his lifelong dedication to public service, visionary leadership, and deep commitment to social welfare.

Bharat Express CMD and Editor-in-Chief Upendrra Rai inaugurated the event by offering floral tributes and lighting a lamp before Singh’s portrait.

The memorial gathering drew a large number of local residents, leaders, and dignitaries, reflecting the strong sense of unity and respect associated with Singh’s legacy.

Chief Guest CMD Upendrra Rai delivered an emotional address, describing Babu Genda Singh as a remarkable leader ahead of his time. He said:

“A great personality is born before time and sees far ahead of it. Babu Genda Singh embodied this spirit. Elected MLA in 1952, later MP and minister, he remained a sheltering presence—serving people in life and inspiring them even after his passing.”

CMD Rai highlighted Singh’s transformative contributions, including the establishment of the sugarcane research centre, goat farm, silk farm, vegetable and spice farms, AP embankment, and canal in Seorahi.

He emphasised that Singh was a true champion of farmers whose vision centred on ensuring prosperity for every cultivator in Purvanchal.

Other Speakers Highlight His Legacy

Padrauna MLA Manish Jaiswal praised Singh’s foresight in creating irrigation networks and agricultural research centres that boosted rural livelihoods.

Kushinagar Municipality Chairman Representative Rakesh Jaiswal described him as ‘the voice of North Indian farmers’, noting his fierce advocacy in Parliament that earned him the name Ganna Singh.

Former MLA Rajnikant Mani Tripathi added that the district’s agricultural university stands as a testament to Singh’s enduring inspiration.

The organising committee honoured the families of freedom fighters Deep Chand Singh, Rajbanshi Singh, Harinandan Singh and Raj Dev Singh.

Farmers, social workers, doctors, and journalists were also felicitated. Several local representatives, office-bearers, and community leaders attended, reinforcing the event’s spirit of social unity.

Babu Genda Singh: A Legacy That Lives On

Born in 1905, Babu Genda Singh played an active role in the Quit India Movement of 1942 and championed the Swadeshi cause.

He served as MLA, MP, and minister before his passing in 1985.

The memorial event sought to preserve his legacy and inspire future generations in Kushinagar, reaffirming his place as one of the region’s most influential leaders.
