Christmas Destinations: India is a melting pot of culture, different religions and Christmas in certain cities especially where Christianity has had a major influence it is quite a mesmerising experience. These places look like a piece of paradise lit up on earth and the celebrations are something to be experienced in person.

Christmas trees with cotton for snow, Live Christmas Cribs, Midnight Mass and a Christmasy touch to traditional Indian foods. Christmas in these Indian places is a delight to enjoy!

Goa

The party capital of India with a sizable Christian population knows how to Jingle Bell like no other Indian city.

The entire city is alive and decorated with Christmas lights and local flowers. The beaches are also alive with live music bands performing at the open beach shacks. The midnight mass and Carol singing at the Churches are a wonderful experience.

It has 400 churches and  The Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Immaculate Conception Church are a must visit specially for the midnight mass.

2022 special : Asia’s biggest music festival Sunburn will be held between December 27 and December 30 at the Vagator beach. It has a great line up of prominent international and Indian musicians.

Kerala

Kerala is rightly called ‘God’s own country’.  The place is alive and churches and streets remain alive through the night during Christmas time.

The Churches which should be on your must visit list include Sanat Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Holy Koonan Cross Church, St.Francis Church, Koonankurishu Church, Malayattoor, St. George Ferona Church, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Madre de Deus Church, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Christ Church and Christian Shree .

Also a must visit are the lovely beaches and the many Christmas carnivals and events in Kovalam.

Trivandrum’s L.M.S. compound is a must visit to see the most spectacular Christmas decorations like hanging stars. Best places for shopping which get a special uplift during Christmas are the Chalai and Palayam markets. Enjoy the cake in Trivandrum at Ambrosia, St. Michels, and Salt n’ Pepper. Kochi’s  shopping festival Kochi Muziris Biennale and Cochin Carnival is also scheduled during Christmas as well the annual Indira Gandhi Boat Race.

Puducherry

If you like your celebrations to be  peaceful and beautiful then it’s time to head to Puducherry for Christmas. Everything is brighter and better during Christmas in Puducherry.

The churches have a memorable church service experience. Must visit churches include the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Eglise de Notre Dame des Anges (The Church of Our Lady of Angels). The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Church of the Assumption. The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, and Church of Our Lady of Good Health.

Christmas music concerts are organised by the beach. Mission Street in Pondicherry is one of the happiest streets during Christmas. The annual Christmas Market is a delight for everyone and is decorated with fairy lights, Christmas themed decor and golden ribbons.

Daman and Diu

The very quiet Daman and Diu is full of charm and brightness during Christmas. Cultural shows, night lamps throughout the place and beautiful mass in churches all make the Daman and Diu Christmas experience something to cherish.

Manali

Celebrating a real white Christmas with real snow awaits you at mystical Manali. It snows for real during Christmas so making a Snowman or the thrill of throwing snowballs is something you can experience in this lovely Himachal destination.Skiing and enjoying a real white Christmas in India is possible in this lovely location.

Tamil Nadu

Christmas is one of the most celebrated  festivals in Tamil Nadu.If you are looking for a vibrant Christmas head to the Marina beach for parties and events around Christmas and New year.

You can attend Christmas parades and Church services at San Thome Basilica, Chennai, or Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, Velankanni.

Uttarakhand
