Crackdown on child marriage is on in Assam. More than 800 were arrested in the second round of the crackdown. The number of arrested is likely to increase. This was confirmed by a tweet released by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The operation crackdown began since the early hours of dawn. In the first round of the crackdown 3141 people were been arrested in total. Men who married underage girls, his family members and the religious person who helped the wedding and performed pujas were arrested. Assam Chief Minister also said those who were involved in the Child marriages specially after the first round of operations will be targetted mostly now.
Himanta Biswa Sarma has also expressed hope that number of arrest in this round is likely to surpass 3141 arrests made in the first round. Those arrested in the first round involves 62..24 of Muslims while the rest happened to be hailing from other religions.

The places where the arrests were made involves Nagaon (224), Hojai (219), Dbubri (217), Baksa (179) and Barpeta(174). Apart from Baksa the other places were usually Muslim dominated.
This is a praiseworthy move by Himanta Biswa Sarma government as Child Marriage are on the rise in not only Assam but across the nation.
