Rahul Gandhi
Following the Supreme Court’s stay of Mr. Gandhi’s conviction in the “Modi surname” defamation case, allowing for his return to parliament as an MP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Lalu Yadav had dinner together.
Both men walked in for a luncheon of mutton prepared by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader himself after a very public picture session in which the RJD leader was seen gifting Mr. Gandhi a bouquet of pastel flowers.
It is notable that Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, was also present during the meeting at the home of RJD MP Misa Bharti in Delhi because the newly formed opposition group INDIA is scheduled to meet in Mumbai later this month.
Although Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Yadav spoke about politics a lot, they also enjoyed their meal and engaged in a lot of small conversation, according to persons with knowledge of the situation.
Lalu Yadav arranged for desi mutton and spices to be imported from Bihar for the occasion and demonstrated to the Congressman how to prepare mutton in the unique style of Bihar.
Champaran mutton from Bihar is renowned for its distinctive flavour and cooking method.
Mr. Gandhi also inquired about the wellbeing of the RJD leader.
Rahul Gandhi’s significant relief from the Supreme Court has prepared the door for his re-entry into parliament. The main concerns right now are how long it will take the Lok Sabha secretariat to reinstate his membership and whether he will be able to take part in the Tuesday debate on the vote of no-confidence in the government.
On the legal front, the Congress leader has contested the Surat trial court’s March judgement that had resulted in his disqualification in the 2019 criminal defamation case. On August 21, the Sessions Court in Surat will hear his appeal against the judgement, which found him guilty and gave him a two-year prison sentence.
