Rouse Avenue Court has officially framed charges against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan for allegedly obstructing a National Investigation Agency (NIA) raid that took place in 2020. The NIA had conducted the raid at Jamia Millia Islamia Nagar, targeting the premises of Zafar-ul-Islam Khan’s Charity Alliance. During the operation, Khan and his supporters are accused of hindering the NIA’s efforts and engaging in arguments with the raiding team.

The NIA filed a case against Khan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189 (threatening public servant), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Following a hearing on the framing of charges, the court concluded that there is ample evidence to proceed with the case under all these sections.
In addition to this matter, Khan is also involve in multiple other legal issues. He faces charges related to money laundering, and despite numerous summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Khan had not appeared before the authorities. In April 2024, Khan sought anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court. Justice Sanjeev Khanna says that authorities should not arrest Khan unless they present substantial evidence. The court instructed the ED to adhere to Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), emphasizing that any arrest should be based on evidence, not taken lightly.
Furthermore, in May 2024, the Noida court ordered the confiscation of Khan’s property under Sections 81/82 of the CrPC following a separate case involving an alleged assault on a petrol pump employee by Khan and his son, Anas. The confiscation order was a result of this case and further complicates Khan’s legal troubles.
As the legal proceedings continue, Amanatullah Khan remains a figure of significant interest in ongoing investigations and court cases.
