The ISRO announced on Friday that the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, launched on July 14, has covered approximately two-thirds of the distance to the Moon. In a series of five maneuvers within the past three weeks, ISRO has progressively elevated the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft to increasingly distant orbits from Earth. A pivotal slingshot maneuver on August 1 propelled the craft successfully from Earth’s orbit toward the Moon.

Following this trans-lunar injection, the spacecraft disengaged from its orbit around Earth and commenced a trajectory aimed at bringing it close to the Moon. In the upcoming significant step, scheduled for August 5 around 7 pm, the Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) will take place. This maneuver is planned to occur when the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is at its closest point to the Moon (perilune), as stated by the national space agency headquartered in Bengaluru.
ISRO previously reported that the third lunar mission of India remains in good health, and an attempt to achieve a soft landing on the lunar surface is targeted for August 23.
