The Ministry of Education has requested the CBSE to devise plans for conducting board exams twice a year starting from the 2025-26 academic session, according to a report from PTI. Anonymous sources cited in the report stated that there are no intentions to implement a semester system.
The Education Ministry, in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), is set to engage in discussions with school principals next month regarding the biannual board exams. Currently, the focus lies on structuring the CBSE academic calendar in a manner that accommodates additional board exams without disrupting the undergraduate admission schedule.
A source quoted by PTI revealed, “The ministry has tasked the CBSE with developing logistics for the biannual board exams. The board is in the process of determining the specifics, and a consultation with school principals will be convened next month.”
As per the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) announced by the Ministry of Education, the decision to hold board examinations twice a year aims to provide students with ample time and opportunities to excel, offering them the chance to retain their best scores.
The proposed plan involves conducting two editions of the board exams at the conclusion of each academic year, starting from the 2025-26 session. However, the details are still being finalized. Nonetheless, it is clarified that there are no intentions to introduce a semester system, as stated by the source to PTI.
