President Putin attended the two-day summit at Bharat Mandapam, which brought together BRICS members, partner nations and outreach invitees.
Addressing the summit on Saturday, Putin said BRICS cooperation rests on equality, good neighbourliness and mutual consideration of interests. He highlighted respect for members’ cultures, civilisations, histories, traditions and values.
President Putin said BRICS has emerged as a key centre of global governance. He added that collective decisions within the grouping could influence international politics, security, economics and humanitarian cooperation. He described the session on ‘Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism’ as highly relevant.
Putin called for broader participation in global mechanisms and stronger multilateral institutions to address emerging challenges, preserve international peace and support shared prosperity.
Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday and held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They reviewed cooperation across political, economic, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people sectors.
The leaders discussed West Asia and the Black Sea conflicts. PM Modi gifted Putin a Russian translation of the Thirukkural by Tamil poet-philosopher Thiruvalluvar, including extensive writings on agriculture and farmers.
The Ministry of External Affairs said both leaders welcomed INNOPROM India, held in India for the first time from September 9 to 11, 2026. They visited the exhibition and interacted with participants.
