India and Vietnam continue to cooperate on multilateral issues. India’s BRICS 2026 chairship follows the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’, based on PM Modi’s ‘Humanity First’ vision.
The visit comes amid growing momentum in India-Vietnam relations.
Last month, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita met Prime Minister Le Minh Hung during his visit to Vietnam. He conveyed PM Modi’s greetings and thanked the Vietnamese Prime Minister for his guidance on advancing bilateral cooperation and translating high-level commitments into tangible outcomes.
Margherita recalled Vietnamese President To Lam’s successful State Visit to India, which marked the elevation of bilateral ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Earlier in May, PM Modi announced the elevation of India-Vietnam relations during his meeting with President To Lam in New Delhi.
Addressing a joint press conference after their talks at Hyderabad House, PM Modi described Vietnam as a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy and Vision ‘MAHASAGAR’.
President To Lam welcomed India’s growing global role, describing the country as a centre of growth and innovation. He further said Vietnam and India attach high priority to their bilateral relationship.
Hung’s participation in the BRICS Summit is expected to provide another opportunity for India and Vietnam to strengthen cooperation and coordinate on shared priorities at the multilateral level.
