Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr held talks in New Delhi on Sunday while attending the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam.
The two leaders assessed developments in their bilateral engagement and expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved across multiple areas. They agreed to expand cooperation in defence and security, trade and investment, space, railway infrastructure, fintech, education, tourism, science and technology, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the two leaders would build on the Strategic Partnership that India and the Philippines established during Marcos’ State Visit to India in August 2025.
PM Modi welcomed Manila’s decision to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
The Prime Minister and the Philippine President additionally exchanged views on regional and global developments and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across the Strategic Partnership.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other Indian officials attended the discussions.
Before beginning their talks, PM Modi and Marcos exchanged greetings, with the Philippine President subsequently introducing his delegation to the Prime Minister.
Marcos had earlier participated in the BRICS session titled ‘Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’ at Bharat Mandapam.
The Philippine leader and PM Modi joined other BRICS members, partner nations, outreach invitees and heads of international organisations for a family photograph on the summit’s second day.
Marcos attended the dinner hosted by PM Modi for visiting leaders at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday evening.
