Blaze On Bharatmala Expressway Claims Trailer Driver’s Life In Jodhpur

Late Sunday night, a tragic road accident on the Bharatmala Expressway in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district claimed the life of a trailer driver after a collision sparked a massive fire.

The incident occurred around 10 PM on the stretch between Ratan Nagar and Chandaliya villages, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Osian police station.

According to police officials, the crash involved a trailer carrying clay for tile manufacturing from Punjab to Gujarat, and a truck loaded with peanuts.

During the journey, the trailer allegedly rammed into the truck from behind, lost control, and slammed into the central divider.

Following the impact, a fierce fire broke out and quickly engulfed the trailer’s cabin. Trapped inside the vehicle, the driver lost his life, while the cleaner accompanying him suffered serious injuries and was taken for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the truck carrying peanuts also caught fire due to the intense heat. Fortunately, the truck driver managed to escape in time, thereby saving his life, police said.

Soon after the accident, local villagers rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the flames using tractor-mounted water tankers filled from nearby tube wells.

Despite their efforts, the blaze intensified because of the highly flammable materials involved.

Eventually, a fire tender from Osian, located approximately 30 kilometres away, arrived at the scene about an hour later.

Firefighters worked for almost two hours before finally bringing the fire under control.

Traffic Chaos and Local Anger

Due to the massive blaze, panic spread in the surrounding area, with flames visible from a long distance.

As a result, traffic on the expressway came to a standstill, leading to a jam stretching nearly five kilometres on both sides.

Later, Osian police reached the spot and diverted vehicles through alternate routes to ease congestion and restore movement.

Angry residents alleged that administrative authorities and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials arrived late despite the severity of the incident.

According to them, the lack of immediate firefighting arrangements allowed the vehicles to burn extensively before emergency services could respond.

Currently, police are investigating the exact cause of the collision, while authorities have taken measures to improve safety and emergency preparedness on major highways.
