Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers nationwide on the foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He extended greetings and reflected on the party’s ideological evolution grounded in service and sacrifice.
He described the BJP as more than a political body, calling it a ‘mother’ for its cadre.
PM Modi said the occasion held emotional value, allowing workers to express gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to founding leaders such as Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyaya, Nanaji Deshmukh, Kushabhau Thakre, Jana Krishnamurthi, Vijaya Raje Scindia, Sunder Singh Bhandari, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, P Parameswaran and Kabindra Purkayastha, among others.
He said the party’s rise resulted from decades of perseverance by dedicated workers.
PM Modi acknowledged early struggles, recalling limited resources and hardships faced by workers.
He cited political violence in states like West Bengal and Kerala, praising workers’ resilience and honouring those who lost their lives.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised that the BJP’s growth stemmed from adherence to principles and commitment to public welfare. He contrasted its ‘nation first’ doctrine with power-driven politics.
Referring to the 1984 Indian general election, he said public trust gradually shifted towards the BJP as governance expectations evolved.
On governance, Prime Minister Modi highlighted policy stability and delivery. He noted that alliances under the BJP prioritised national interest over power gains.
PM Modi reiterated his commitment to women’s empowerment through the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. He also cited key reforms like the Goods and Services Tax and ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’.
He described the abrogation of Article 370 as a decisive step towards national unity, aligned with Mookerjee’s vision.
Concluding, PM Modi thanked workers and supporters, reaffirming his dedication to national service.
