BJP Slams Congress Protest; Warns Against Insults To Prime Minister Modi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce counterattack on the Congress after controversial and derogatory slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi surfaced during a Congress protest in the national capital. BJP leaders warned that the public ‘will not tolerate’ what they described as reckless and abusive political rhetoric against a democratically elected leader.

The controversy erupted during the Congress party’s protest rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, organised to allege ‘vote chori’ and accuse the central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of colluding to manipulate electoral outcomes.

While Congress framed the demonstration as a defence of democracy, the event quickly spiralled into a political flashpoint after some participants were heard chanting objectionable slogans against the Prime Minister.

Videos circulating from the rally captured Congress workers raising slogans such as ‘Vote chor, gaddi chhod’ and even more inflammatory chants predicting violence against the Prime Minister.

Placards and banners accompanied the slogans, intensifying the political fallout and drawing sharp condemnation from the BJP.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra delivered a stinging rebuke. He said such language reflects Congress’s repeated failure to read public sentiment.

Patra asserted that whenever the opposition resorts to personal abuse against Prime Minister Modi or his family, voters decisively reject it at the ballot box.

Patra also linked the incident to what he called a broader pattern of disrespectful conduct by Congress leaders. He cited a recent controversy involving an AI-generated video circulated by a Congress spokesperson that mocked the Prime Minister’s past as a tea seller.

According to Patra, such actions echo the mindset of senior Congress figures who have historically used personal attacks instead of political debate.

Rhetoric Sparks Political Firestorm

“The public does not forgive insults against a leader they admire and trust,” Patra said, accusing Congress of indulging in polarising politics rather than addressing governance issues.

He warned that such rhetoric damages democratic discourse and alienates ordinary citizens.

The Congress, meanwhile, has stood by the purpose of its protest, insisting that it seeks accountability from the government and the ECI over alleged electoral irregularities.

Senior party leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal, were scheduled to address the gathering.

The rally also saw participation from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, state legislators, and thousands of party workers, underscoring the Congress’s attempt to project national unity on the issue.

However, the BJP has framed the episode as yet another example of the opposition crossing red lines in political protest. As election rhetoric sharpens, the incident highlights the growing tension between aggressive street politics and the limits of acceptable democratic expression.
