Apple rolled out watchOS 26.2 on Friday, approximately five weeks after the 26.1 update. Installation is possible for all Apple Watch models compatible with watchOS 26 and requires an iPhone running iOS 26.2.
Users can update through the Apple Watch app under General > Software Update, ensuring the watch has at least 50 per cent battery and remains on its charger during installation.
Sleep tracking received the most significant improvement in watchOS 26.2. The Sleep Score grading system now better reflects users’ actual rest.
The highest score, formerly called ‘Excellent’, has been renamed ‘Very High’, while other ranges have been adjusted to broaden lower-scoring categories. Very Low now spans 0–40 points instead of 0–29, and Very High applies to 96–100.
The update retains the same underlying metrics—Duration, Bedtime, and Interruptions—but redefines thresholds for Very Low, Low, OK, High, and Very High results.
Enhanced Safety Alerts provide timely notifications about potential threats, such as floods, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
Alerts include detailed maps of affected areas and links to further guidance. The feature is currently limited to users in the United States.
Apple also resolved a long-standing issue in the Music app, which previously failed to advance to the next song. This fix ensures smoother playback for users relying on their watch for music during workouts or daily activities.
Overall, watchOS 26.2 enhances both health tracking and safety features. The refined Sleep Score system offers more accurate insights into nightly rest, while Enhanced Safety Alerts deliver actionable notifications in emergencies.
Together with the Music app fix, these improvements elevate the overall Apple Watch experience.
