BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh from Sarojini Nagar criticized SP chief Akhilesh Yadav over his recent comments on the UP Director General of Police (DGP) appointment. Rajeshwar Singh responded on social media platform X, sharing two tweets from Akhilesh Yadav that targeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for appointing an acting DGP and extending his tenure.
Singh defended UP’s law and order achievements under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership. He cited statistics to highlight the government’s actions against criminals and mafia groups. Singh noted that, over seven years, police encounters have killed 197 criminals and injured 6,329. Police have also dismantled 68 mafia gangs, seized ₹3,758 crore worth of property, and freed over 66,000 hectares of illegally occupied land.
Singh outlined the government’s new DGP selection process. A six-member committee, led by a retired High Court judge, will now handle the selection. The committee will include a UPSC representative and the UP Public Service Commission chairman.
Rajeshwar Singh advised Akhilesh Yadav to focus on development issues and play a constructive role as an opposition leader. He urged Yadav to prioritize meaningful discussions and prepare for the 2027 elections.
