RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s Chief Ministerial face, is trailing in the Raghopur Assembly constituency, a seat long dominated by his family.
Early trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) show BJP’s Satish Kumar Yadav leading with over 17,500 votes.
Tejashwi won Raghopur in both 2015 and 2020. He aimed to retain his family stronghold amid tough competition from Satish Kumar and Chanchal Kumar of JanSuraj.
Raghopur has been an RJD bastion for decades, represented by Lalu Prasad Yadav, founder of the party, and his wife, Rabri Devi, before Tejashwi’s tenure. In 2020, Tejashwi had secured the seat with a lead of over 38,000 votes.
The BJP fielded Satish Kumar Yadav, who previously defeated Rabri Devi in the 2010 elections, representing JD(U).
Another notable contender is Prem Kumar of the Janshakti Janata Dal, a party founded by Tejashwi’s estranged brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, adding further complexity to the contest.
As of 11:15 AM, ECI trends showed JD(U) leading in 79 seats and BJP ahead in 83 seats.
Together, the NDA was leading in 188 constituencies, while the Mahagathbandhan trailed with 44 seats.
Counting began at 8 AM, starting with postal ballots, followed by EVM vote counting from 8:30 AM.
Authorities are conducting the process under multi-tier security arrangements across Bihar.
Both alliances expressed confidence in their performance. NDA leaders asserted that the results reflected the public’s trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
They also said the results showed confidence in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development work.
Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan maintained optimism, claiming that voters had “voted for change” and expressing hope that Tejashwi would form the next government.
Tejashwi said, “Change will happen, a government will be formed,” signalling his confidence as the counting progressed.
Observers are closely watching Raghopur’s results, as the seat carries symbolic weight for the RJD.
It also tests the BJP’s ability to penetrate traditional strongholds and could shape Bihar’s overall political landscape.
