Bihar Cabinet Expansion Likely Today After NDA Leadership Consultations

The Bihar Cabinet led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is expected to be expanded on Wednesday following key consultations with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders in New Delhi.

Sources indicate that the party high command has approved the final list of ministers. The decision has cleared the way for the much-anticipated expansion.

The Bihar Chief Minister returned to Patna on Monday after concluding meetings in the national capital. He met senior NDA leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony are in full swing at Gandhi Maidan, with stage setup and logistics being finalised.

A Cabinet meeting is scheduled for 5 PM later in the day and is expected to be the first involving the newly inducted ministers.

The Cabinet formation is expected to emphasise caste and regional balance, along with the inclusion of experienced leaders and induction of new and younger faces. Adequate representation for women is also likely to be a key consideration.

The expansion aims to strike a balance between continuity and change to strengthen governance and broaden political outreach. It is expected to feature a mix of seasoned leaders and fresh entrants, with a focus on inclusive representation.

Earlier, on March 30, Nitish Kumar resigned as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council. The move signalled a significant political transition ahead of his shift to the Rajya Sabha.

Subsequently, Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar. His appointment brought an end to Nitish Kumar’s 21-year tenure.
