Bihar recorded a voter turnout of 60.40% by 3 PM on Tuesday during the final phase of the 2025 Assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India.
Kishanganj led with 66.10%, followed by Purnia (64.22%), Katihar (63.80%), Jamui (63.33%) and Banka (63.03%). Voting for 122 Assembly seats continues across 20 districts, with over 37 million voters, including 17.4 million women, eligible to cast their votes at 45,399 polling stations. Polls will close at 5 PM.
Bihar police closed borders with Nepal following the deadly Red Fort blasts in Delhi, ensuring peaceful elections, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar said. “The police are alert to prevent any such incident in Bihar. The international border has been sealed for the past 72 hours,” he added.
BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey predicted a decisive NDA victory, claiming support for development and projecting more than 180 seats. Conversely, RJD MP Manoj Jha expressed confidence in a Mahagathbandhan win, saying a ‘big wave’ from the first phase will oust the NDA.
By 11 AM, the turnout stood at 31.38%, with Kishanganj, Gaya, and Jamui leading. Key candidates in the fray include former deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad (Katihar), ex-speaker Uday Narain Choudhary (Sikandra), and senior BJP leader Renu Devi. Other constituencies under watch are Kahalgaon, Narpatganj, Forbesganj, Mokama, and Valmiki Nagar.
Voting for eight by-elections across six states and one Union Territory is also underway. Pollsters are expected to release exit poll predictions around 6:30 PM, following the conclusion of polling at 5 PM. Authorities will announce the final results on 14 November. The outcome will decide whether Nitish Kumar’s JD(U)-BJP-led NDA retains power or Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD-led INDIA bloc takes control.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters, especially first-timers, to set new records in turnout. He also encouraged them to inspire others to participate enthusiastically in the democratic process.
