Bharat Express Urdu’s third national conclave, ‘Bazm-e-Sahafat’, formally opened at the India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony.

The event brings together prominent figures from politics, administration, education and journalism to discuss the theme ‘New India with Urdu’ and the evolving role of Urdu journalism.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najib Jung, former Union Minister and BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, and National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) Acting Chairman Professor Dr Shahid Akhtar jointly lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the conclave.

The opening ceremony, however, marked the beginning of a day-long discussion on the history, present relevance and future of Urdu journalism in India.

Speakers and participants will examine the changing media landscape and the opportunities for Urdu journalism in the digital era.

Bharat Express Urdu Editor Dr Khalid Raza Khan delivered the welcome address during the inaugural session. He highlighted Urdu’s rich historical legacy, its contribution to India’s Ganga-Jamuni cultural tradition and its continuing relevance within mainstream journalism.

Bharat Express News Network CMD and Editor-in-Chief Upendrra Rai is leading the initiative to bring Urdu journalism into the wider national discourse.

Addressing the inaugural session as a keynote speaker, CMD Upendrra Rai underlined the importance of responsible and impartial journalism in a democratic society.

The conclave will, however, feature discussions on subjects including ‘The Role of Urdu Journalism in Nation Building’ and ‘Urdu in Political Dialogue’.

MPs, editors, intellectuals and other prominent voices will participate in the sessions, examining the contribution of Urdu journalism to public discourse and its future in contemporary India.
