Delhi witnessed a grand celebration of Maithili arts and culture as the Mata Chakeri Foundation, in collaboration with the Maithili-Bhojpuri Akademi of the Delhi Government, organised ‘Badariya’ at the NDMC Convention Centre. Bharat Express News Network supported the event as a sponsor.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended as the chief guest. Minister for Art, Culture and Language Kapil Mishra and Bharat Express CMD and Chief Editor Upendrra Rai, also trustee of the Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation, graced the occasion.
BJP media co-incharge Sanjay Mayukh, MP Bansuri Swaraj, and NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal were also present.
CMD Upendrra Rai welcomed the Delhi Chief Minister with an angavastram. Minister Kapil Mishra presented her with a memento.
Both CMD Rai and CM Rekha Gupta inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Brijesh Rai, chief trustee of Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation, welcomed the cultural minister, while Saadyant Kaushal began the programme by singing Saraswati Vandana.
Padma Shri awardee Malini Awasthi mesmerised the audience with her mastery of Dadra, Thumri, Kajri, and Chaiti.
Renowned Maithili singer Kunj Bihari Mishra and acclaimed tabla player Rimpa Shiv enchanted the gathering. Flute player Vaishavi Joshi and sitarist Megha Rawat lifted the audience into sheer awe.
Special guests Anshu Kala and the Pushpanjali group performed Maithili and Bhojpuri folk dances, while Samridhi Pathak and Sanvi Pathak sang Maithili bhajans.
Organisers had to shift the venue to the NDMC auditorium due to incessant rains, showing strong commitment to the cause.
CM Rekha Gupta praised the celebration, saying, “Events like these show Delhi is now transforming.”
She appreciated the organisers and highlighted the city’s improved infrastructure to mitigate rain disruptions.
CMD Upendrra Rai commended the Mata Chakeri Devi Foundation for hosting the event despite heavy downpours and said the programme will travel across India to promote Maithili arts and culture.
Kapil Mishra lauded the event, adding, “Delhi is witnessing historic programmes like Teej and functions celebrating the ghumantu samaj. Under the chief minister’s leadership, these events will reach the masses.”
The programme was organised under the leadership of Upendrra Rai to promote Bhojpuri and Maithili culture in Delhi. Trust members Brijesh Rai, Apoorv Singh, and Pramod Kumar were also present.
