Atiq Ahmad’s Lawyer Khan Saulat Hanif Declared History Sheeter

Gangster turned politician slain Atiq Ahmad’s lawyer has been declared history by Dhumanganj police in Prayagraj. Four cases are registered against lawyer Khan Saulat Hanif. He is currently serving life imprisonment for abduction of lawyer Umesh Pal who was killed on February 24 this year.

The UP Bar council had cancelled the licence of Khan Saulat Hanif.

As a member of Atiq Ahmed’s group, IS-227, lawyer Khan Saulat Hanif was one of his close aides.

Even if he is released from custody, police will closely monitor his movements after reviewing his criminal background, according to officials.

Khan Saulat Hanif, a B-category history sheeter currently incarcerated in Naini Central Jail, has history sheet number 62-B. History sheets in the B category are only closed following the passing of the history sheeter.

Hanif is serving life sentence in Naini Jail in case related to the abduction of Umesh Pal. However, trial in other three cases is pending among the four registered against him.

Khan Saulat Hanif’s B-category history sheet has been opened, according to Varun Kumar, ACP Dhumanganj. He also said that the police will closely monitor his activities. Khan Saulat will still need to routinely show up at the police station even if he is granted bail. If he doesn’t show up at the police station, officers will come to his house to confirm.

Hanif is facing charges under arms act as well.

Following his confession, authorities retrieved an automatic weapon from Khan Saulat Hanif’s home as he was being questioned in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal. Hanif was placed under police detention. He told the authorities that the gun was Atiq’s gift to him as a precaution.
