Arvind Kejriwal’s Post-Tihar Message: A Call to Combat Dictatorship

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal emerged from Tihar Jail just moments before 7 pm on Friday, marking the end of his roughly 50-day stint in custody related to a money-laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy. “It feels wonderful to be here. I promised a swift return, and here I am,” remarked Kejriwal, sporting an olive t-shirt, amidst cheers from his party supporters eagerly awaiting his release. Expressing gratitude to Lord Hanuman for blessings, Kejriwal announced plans to visit Connaught Place’s Hanuman Temple the following day at 11 am, followed by a press conference at the party office at 1 pm.

While arrangements were initially made at Tihar’s gate number 3, Kejriwal was ultimately released from gate number 4, from where he proceeded to gate number 3 to address his supporters. The Supreme Court granted interim bail to the Aam Aadmi Party leader in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with the order issued around 2 pm. Subsequently, jail authorities processed the order upon its arrival, completing the necessary formalities for Kejriwal’s release.

Under the bail conditions, Kejriwal is prohibited from visiting the Chief Minister’s office or the Secretariat, performing any chief ministerial duties, and must return to jail on June 2. Expressing gratitude, Kejriwal thanked the Supreme Court judges for granting him interim bail and emphasized the imperative of safeguarding the country from dictatorship.

Accompanied by his wife Sunita Kejriwal, daughter Harshita, and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, Kejriwal left Tihar in his own convoy. Celebration erupted among party workers upon the announcement of the interim bail order, with AAP supporters distributing sweets, dancing to the beat of dhol drums, and chanting slogans such as “The jail gates have broken, Kejriwal is freed,” “Modi is departing, Kejriwal is arriving,” and “Look who’s arrived, the lion has come.”
