On Monday, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched his party’s final manifesto for the 5 February Delhi Assembly elections, presenting a set of 15 key promises under the slogan ‘Kejriwal ki Guarantee’.
These include commitments to provide jobs for youth, Rs 2,100 monthly assistance for women, new ration cards, and the waiver of inflated water and power bills.
In a new initiative, Kejriwal announced Rs 1 lakh assistance for the daughters of auto, taxi, and e-rickshaw drivers in Delhi for their marriages. He also promised Rs 10 lakh life insurance for these drivers.
While unveiling the manifesto, Kejriwal acknowledged his failure to fulfill the 2020 promise of cleaning the Yamuna, providing 24X7 clean drinking water, and improving road infrastructure.
“I am admitting that we could not fulfil these works due to Covid-19 and our team’s imprisonment. These three works are my dream and in the next five years we will achieve these as we have a plan and adequate funds for them,” Kejriwal stated.
Kejriwal cautioned voters that the BJP would end free welfare schemes if it gains power in Delhi, asserting, “Pressing ‘Jhaadu’ button in the coming election will result in a monthly saving of Rs 25,000 for each family in the city.”
“I think many poor families, including those from the middle class, will be forced to leave the city if this saving is stopped,” Kejriwal noted.
Additionally, he emphasized that each family in Delhi is saving a monthly total of Rs 10,000 from free education for children, Rs 5,000 from the free power scheme, Rs 2,000 from free water, Rs 5,000 from free healthcare, and Rs 2,500-Rs 3,000 from the free bus travel scheme for women.
Kejriwal promised to introduce the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ in the first Cabinet meeting of the new AAP government. He also stated that the ‘Jhaadu’ (broom) is symbolic of the goddess of wealth, Laxmi.
“If you press ‘Jhaadu’ button in the EVM and you have around two women in your family you will get additional Rs 4,000 every month, in addition to the saving of Rs 25,000 every month,” said the AAP National Convenor.
Kejriwal also reiterated his promise to end the tanker mafia, extend free power benefits to tenants, and introduce Rs 18,000 monthly stipends for priests and granthis.
Additionally, he promised urgent repairs for overflowing sewers, with plans to replace old sewer lines within a year.
“When I was in jail, they did such a shoddy job and blocked sewers. I will ensure that blocked sewers are repaired on a priority,” Kejriwal said.
The manifesto also touched on further promises, including financial support and scholarships for underprivileged students, free travel for students in DTC buses, and 50% discounts on Metro fares.
Other initiatives include free pilgrimage for the elderly and the Sanjeevani health insurance for residents aged 60 and above.
Kejriwal stated that all promises under ‘Kejriwal ki Guarantee’ will be in addition to the six existing ‘revaris’ (freebies) already provided by the AAP government, including free power, free water, free education, free pilgrimage, free bus travel for women, and free medical care.
The final set of AAP’s poll promises came two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra Part 3,’ which outlined welfare schemes targeting a broad range of voters, including women, students, slum dwellers, auto and taxi drivers, and middle-class refugee families from Pakistan.
The election for 70 Delhi legislators will take place on 5 February, and officials will announce the results on 8 February.
Currently, AAP holds 62 seats, and the BJP has eight in the outgoing Assembly.
AAP is aiming for a fourth consecutive victory, while the BJP seeks to regain power after 27 years.
