Arvind Kejriwal, convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Delhi Chief Minister, made it clear on Wednesday that his party will contest the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections independently. He also ruled out any possibility of an alliance with Congress.
Addressing speculation about a possible AAP-Congress tie-up, Kejriwal posted on X, “Aam Aadmi Party will be fighting this election on its own strength in Delhi. There is no possibility of any alliance with Congress.”
The announcement comes after ongoing rumors suggested that the two parties were close to finalizing an alliance to challenge the BJP in Delhi. Despite these speculations, Kejriwal firmly rejected the idea of joining forces with Congress.

This is not the first time Kejriwal has dismissed the possibility of an alliance with Congress. He had previously stated that AAP would not enter into a coalition with the Congress for the Delhi Assembly elections. Congress, under Delhi Pradesh Congress President Devender Yadav, has also confirmed it will contest all 70 seats in Delhi.
Kejriwal’s stance on alliances has been consistent. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he ruled out any tie-up with Congress in Punjab and announced that AAP would contest all 13 seats on its own. Similarly, the two parties failed to agree on a seat-sharing arrangement for the Haryana Assembly polls.
In preparation for the upcoming elections, AAP has launched an aggressive campaign, treating the polls as a referendum on the party’s performance. On Tuesday, Kejriwal unveiled five guarantees for Delhi’s autorickshaw drivers, including a Rs 10 lakh life insurance scheme, Rs 1 lakh for daughters’ weddings, Rs 2,500 uniform allowance for drivers during Holi and Diwali, and free coaching for their children to prepare for competitive exams.
So far, AAP has announced 31 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
